Nurturing Growth is the second resource in the Cultivate Your Commitment to Canada series. This collection of three activity guides is designed for use in schools and community youth groups across Canada at the Grade 4-8 level. The resources explore the nature of Canadian citizenship, the values that we share as Canadians and the responsibilities inherent in participating actively in Canadian culture.
Nurturing Growth looks at the vibrant and diverse garden of Canadian citizenship, its roots, its strengths and its future. The material explores the people and forces that have shaped the garden's growth and examines the shared values that create cohesiveness and belonging among the many varieties of plants that coexist in its soil. |
The resource includes
- a teacher's guide designed to encourage youth to explore and value our differences as Canadian citizens, and to understand that we share a vision for the future that includes peace, respect, justice, inclusion and stewardship for the earth. The guide includes all handouts and complete lesson plans plus teaching tips for supportive pedagogy.
- an interactive activity chart that can be ordered in class sets to allow students an opportunity to record and reflect on their learning
- a themed poster to introduce the unit
