literacy connections

The Literacy Connections program provides concrete ways for schools, Early Years Centres, community organizations and daycares to support the development of literacy skills at home and encourage a love of reading within the families they serve. It is designed to help parents and caregivers use effective strategies when reading with the children in their lives.

The Literacy Connections program can be run in two ways:
1. As a lending program where parents borrow the materials from an organization for use at home
2. As a workshop where parents come together to participate in the program

The resource includes

The Literacy Connections Implementation Manual and Workshop Kit which provides step-by-step instructions for running a lending program or workshop and includes all handouts, forms, promotional flyers and materials needed.
The Literacy Connections Start at Home Guide for Parents designed for use in the lending program and takes parents through the Literacy Connections video with full instructions, activities and tips.
The Literacy Connections Video featuring a series of vignettes showing parents and children involved in reading aloud, shared reading/shared discussion, and guided reading. Throughout the video, parents and children share valuable insights about reading and literacy.
